Hey!
In this week’s lesson we’re going to learn about likes and dislikes.
This topic can be very useful during an introduction, because in my opinion our preferences define us very much. So let’s see how we can express them!
Since this part is not paired with a video, I will leave little voice notes to each sentences, so you can still learn the pronounciation.

Part 1 – The conjugation of to love (szeretni)

	present indefinite tense	present definite tense
I like	(én) szeretek	(én) szeretem
you like	(te) szeretsz	(te) szereted
he / she / it likes	(ő) szeret	(ő) szereti
we like	(mi) szeretünk	(mi) szeretjük
you like	(ti) szerettek	(ti) szeretitek
they like	(ők) szeretnek	(ők) szeretik

ⓘ You don’t have to put the pronouns in front of the verb, because the conjugation will determine who are you talking about. Putting the pronoun in front of the verb emphasizes more the person that you’re talking about.

ⓘ If you want to say that you don’t like something, you just simply put the word “nem” (no) in front of the verb.
Example: Nem szeretek olvasni és főzni. (I don’t like to read and to cook.)
If you want to emphasize the person that doesn’t like to thing, you put the word ‘”nem” between the pronoun and the verb.
Example: Én nem szeretek olvasni és főzni. (I don’t like to read and cook.)

ⓘ To say that you like something, but don’t like another thing, connect the two parts with the word “de” (but).
Example: Szeretek olvasni, de nem szeretek táncolni. (I like to read, but I don’t like to dance.) Simple, right?

Pt. 2. Example sentences
Present indefinite tense
Én szeretek olvasni és főzni. I like to read and cook.

Te szeretsz sétálni a városban és kávézni. You like to walk in the city and have a coffee.

Ő szeret kertészkedni. He / She / It likes to garden.

Mi szeretünk úszni a tóban. We like to swim in the lake.

Ti szerettek horgászni, mert nagyon nyugalmas. You like to fish, because it’s very peaceful.

Ők szeretnek táncolni és énekelni. They like to dance and to sing.

Present indefinite tense
Én szeretem ezt a csendes környéket. I like this quiet neighborhood.

Te szereted az állatokat. You like the animals.

Ő szereti a jó beszélgetéseket. He / She / It likes the good conversations.

Mi szeretjük ezt a ruhát. We like this dress.

Ti szeretitek az indiai ételeket. You like Indian food.

Ők szeretik a természetet. They like nature.

Pt. 3 The conjugation of other verbs for like and dislike
In this part you will find more verbs with that you can express your like / love / dislike or hatred towards something. You will find the pronounciation after every table.

imádni – to love
This verb expresses a strong love towards something.

	present indefinite tense	present definite tense
I love	(én) imádok	(én) imádom
you love	(te) imádsz	(te) imádod
he / she / it loves	(ő) imád	(ő) imádja
we love	(mi) imádunk	(mi) imádjuk
you love	(ti) imádtok	(ti) imádjátok

Utálni – to hate
This verb expresses a strong hatred towards something.

	present indefinite tense	present definite tense
I hate	(én) utálok	(én) utálom
you hate	(te) utálsz	(te) utálod
he / she / it hates	(ő) utál	(ő) utálja
we hate	(mi) utálunk	(mi) utáljuk
you hate	(ti) utáltok	(ti) utáljátok
they hate	(ők) utálnak	(ők) utálják

ⓘ To say different sentences with these verbs, you simply use them the same way as you saw at pt. 2.
Example: Imádok olvasni. Utálok táncolni. (I love to read. I hate to dance.)
