Welcome to your first Hungarian lesson on this blog!
In this lesson you will learn the most common questions that can occur during an introduction and how you can answer to them!

This lesson is based on my Youtube video in which you can also listen and practice the pronunciation of these words and sentences.
The lesson is divided into 5 parts
* in the first one you will find the transcript of my video with the English translation after each sentence.
* in the second one you will find the vocabulary of the transcipt with the most important words of the text.
* the third part is a little grammar that is related to the topic.
* the fourth part gives you some more words that are related to the topic, but the transcript did not include them.
* the fifth part is a simple task that you can complete to see how many things you learned during the lesson.

DISCLAIMER: This lesson is not for complete beginners, because there are many amazing (and free) sources on the internet that are perfect for this case. The purpose of this lesson is to see continous texts, posts that imitate real life situations and that can help you be more comfortable and fluent in Hungarian. But feel free to ask anything that comes to your mind along the way!

Part 1 – The transcript of the video

Szia, hogy hívnak? – Hi, what’s your name?
– A nevem Petra. – My name is Petra.

Hány éves vagy? – How old are you?
– 27 éves vagyok. – I’m 27 years old.

Hol élsz? Hol születtél? Mi a nemzetiséged? – Where do you live? Where were you born? What’s your nationality?
– Budapesten élek. – I live in Budapest.
– Magyarországon születtem, magyar vagyok és magyar az anyanyelvem. – I was born in Hungary, I’m Hungarian and Hungarian is my mother tongue.

Mesélj magadról, miért élsz Budapesten? – Tell me about yourself, why do you live in Budapest?
– Vidéken nőttem fel, de az egyetem miatt Budapestre költöztem, úgyhogy kilenc éve élek Budapesten és nagyon szeretem ezt a várost. – I grew up in the countryside, but I moved to Budapest because of the university, so I have been living in Budapest for 9 years and I really love this city.
– Gyakran utazok haza meglátogatni a szüleimet, a testvéremet, és persze a két kutyámat. – I often travel home to visit my parents, my sibling and of course my two dogs.
– Két diplomám van és összesen hét évig jártam egyetemre. – I have two degrees and I went to university for 7 years in total.

Mivel foglalkozol? – What do you do for a living?
– Másfél éve kezdtem el dolgozni, és mellette Youtube videókat készítek, úgyhogy jelenleg két munkám van. – I started working one and a half year ago and I also make Youtube videos , so now I have two jobs.

Hol élsz Budapesten? – Where do you live in Budapest?
– A vőlegényemmel egy kis lakásban lakunk Zuglóban, a tizennegyedik (14.) kerületben. – I live with my fiancé in a small flat in Zugló, in the 14th district.
– Ez egy nagyon nyugodt környék, ezért szeretek itt lakni. – This is a very calm neighbourhood, which is why I love to live here.

Mit szeretsz csinálni a szabadidődben, mi a hobbid? – What do you like to do in your free time, what’s your hobby?
– Szeretek olvasni, rajzolni, festeni és fotózni. – I like to read, draw, paint and take photos.
– Alapvetően kreatív embernek tartom magam. – Essentially I consider myself a creative person.
– Sajnos festeni és rajzolni ritkán szoktam, mivel a videózás nagyon sok időt vesz igénybe, de azért évente 1-2 képet elkészítek. – Unfortunately, I rarely paint or draw, because making videos takes a lot of time, but I do make 1-2 pictures a year.
– Leginkább Budapestről szeretek festeni. – I mostly like to paint about Budapest.

Mit szeretek még csinálni? – What else do I like to do?
– Szeretek sétálni a városban, mert Budapest egy nagyon szép város, számomra az egyik legszebb a világon. – I like to walk in the city, because Budapest is a very beautiful city, for me it’s one of the most beautiful in the world.
– Szeretem, hogy mindig van egy olyan hely, utca, ahol még nem jártam, szeretem, hogy tele van élettel és programokkal. – I like that there’s always a place, a street where I have not been before, I like that it’s full of life and programs.
– Rengeteg zöldterület van, ahol lehet túrázni, sétálni vagy csak piknikezni egyet, és persze ott a Duna, ami még szebbé teszi ezt a várost. – There are lots of green areas where you can hike, walk or just have a picnic, and of course, there is the Danube, which makes the whole city even more beautiful.
– Emellett érdekel a magyar kultúra, az ország, ezért szeretnék minél több várost meglátogatni és bemutatni nektek. – I am also interested in the Hungarian culture, the country, so I would like to visit as many cities as possible and introduce them to you.
